Abstract:

In this paper, it is aimed to reveal the possible effect of the share repurchase announcements on the market value announced by 34
firms listed on the Stock Exchange Istanbul Industrial Index during the period 01.01.2014-10.01.2020. In this sense, the Event Study
method is utilised to test market efficiency in semi-strong form, which can be stated as the simultaneous reflection of publicly available
information sets on prices. In the light of the data obtained, while positive Average Abnormal Return was detected on the day and
first day after the announcement, any trend is observed in the consequent days. In conclusion, it can be said that the share repurchase
announcements of the firms in the Borsa Istanbul Industrial Index have a conceivable impact on the market price and that the market
is not efficient in a semi-strong form.
