Abstract:

There are various elements that are effective in the realization of the objectives of a particular organization. One of these elements is the leader who brings together and directs the members of the group. In terms of the behaviors they exhibit, some leaders direct their followers to the organizational goals while strive for the realization of their goals at the same time. In the literature, such leadership behaviors are defined as servant leadership within modern leadership approaches. It is emphasized that the distinctive feature of servant leadership from other approaches is the characteristics of this type of leadership. Therefore it is possible to evaluate about whether a leader is a servant by handling the characteristics of the servant leadership. In this frame of work Yavuz Sultan Selim, who was an influential sultan with his attitudes and behaviors in determining the course of the Ottoman Empire has been evaluated in terms of the characteristics of the servant leadership. On the other hand both the original and the simplifications of these texts are included in the information obtained from the sources and in this context it has been discussed whether he is a servant leader according to the leadership behaviors displayed by Yavuz Sultan Selim during the sultanate in the frame of the characteristics of the servant leadership stated by Spears.
