Abstract:

This research aims to highlight the importance of the position of the Dean of Iraq and its role in the Seljuk administration of the country of Iraq during the era of the great Seljuk sultans (447 - 552 AH / 1055 - 1157 AD). This is because the Seljuk Sultans since they entered Baghdad they did not take it as a center for them, but they settled in different civilized centers that they considered their capitals, and then they created the job of the Dean of Iraq, and he is sometimes called the Dean of Baghdad, as well as the President of the two Iraqs, who acted as a deputy for the Seljuk Sultan in Iraq and took Baghdad as his headquarters And his appointment was made by the Seljuk Sultan, The dean cooperates with the Shihnna in establishing security and order in the Iraqi region, but the Dean powers and his specialization were broader than those assigned to the Shihnna. The Dean oversees all of Iraq, while the Shihnna supervises cities such as Baghdad, Basra, or other cities in Iraq. Therefore, the goal of this job was to control the administrative and security affairs in Iraq to ensure the continuation of Seljuk rule.
