Abstract:

Rock art is considered one of the most important sources of knowledge about the religious beliefs and thoughts of primitive man. Where he depicted shapes, pictures, paintings, symbols, as well as drawings left on the front of rocks or on the walls of caves. Initially, his art consisted of embodying and translating his various fears and beliefs effecting his mentality. Primitive man was afraid of ferocious animals, so he painted them to control them. He also tried to draw symbols that he believed would protect him from the evil of natural phenomena. These drawings may have a magical aspect, and the symbols used have an ideological connotation linked to magical rituals and the feeling of existence. The Central Sahara in the Saharan Atlas region of Algeria is one of the best and most beautiful examples, as they contain rich and varied scenes that reflect the religious beliefs and myths. Thus, it is one of the important sources on which the archaeologist and historian relies on in reconstructing and visualizing the daily life of man. Our objective is to study religious life, practices and rituals in the Saharan Atlas Rather, it went beyond his thinking, his feelings and his beliefs, by highlighting the close link between art and religious beliefs in ancient primitive societies. For sure, the rock inscriptions expressed the history of man, namely his religious particularity, carried out according to the rituals inspired from his spiritual beliefs.
