Abstract:

The concept of Jihad, legitimized by Allah to prevent oppression and tyranny against humans, encompasses life in its political, social, and economic aspects. Some contemporary scholars, influenced by Western Orientalist views on Jihad, have caused a division among Muslim scholars. While some scholars have taken a stance against Jihad, claiming that it is incompatible with modern international laws, others have attempted to use these ideas as a tool to achieve personal or collective goals accepted by a limited segment of society. In the current situation, it has become essential to review the new ideas presented by contemporary thinkers regarding Jihad, comparing them with the views of interpretive scholars. In this study, the concept of Jihad, its types, applications, and related doubts in classical and modern interpretations are addressed through a comparative analysis. The understanding of Jihad by classical and modern interpreters and its reflections in the lives of Muslims are examined. The study is organized into sections such as the definition, legitimacy, and wisdom of Jihad in language and Islamic law, the concept of Jihad in classical and modern interpretations, types of Jihad and their modern uses, old and new doubts about Jihad, and responses to these doubts. The aim of the study is to respond to misconceptions about the concept of Jihad that lead to skeptical and accusatory thoughts against Islam and Muslims, using analytical and comparative analysis methods.
