Abstract:

The tourism sector is both sensitive and vulnerable to climate change, while also being one of the industries contributing it through greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, tourisms strategic and spatial planning should be approached from a perspective supporting global and national efforts to combat climate change. For Türkiye, one of the worlds leading tourism destinations, this is significant due to its geographical location and economic structure. This study aims to identify the principles that will form the basis of spatial planning to combat the risks posed by climate change and reduce the negative impacts of tourism development on climate change in Türkiyes tourism regions. Firstly, secondary data were utilized to reveal the current situation of the Culture and Tourism Conservation and Development Zone CTCDZ and Tourism Centers TC in Türkiye. Secondly, a systematic literature review was conducted. In the final stage, based on the findings of the comprehensive literature review, the risks and potentials of the CTCDZs and TCs were evaluated, and the principles for climate change-compatible spatial planning were identified. This study establishes the general framework for spatial planning in tourism, aligned with climate change adaptation. It is intended to serve as a guide for future tourism plans and investments.
