Abstract:

The Roman Empire controlled the lands around the Mediterranean Sea, the centre of the ancient world, under its political influence, territories of various human races and peoples, and despite their distinctive linguistic, cultural and religious differences, its governing authorities showed great tolerance for this difference, leaving the latter with absolute freedom to practise their customs and traditions, as long as they were subject to Roman laws. Within territories under the same authority, the Christian faith arose and was conceived as a creed that matched the religious beliefs of the time, among the peoples of the Empire's various races, customs and traditions.
The hallmarks of the Roman Empire were its non-interference in the social affairs systems of the subordinate peoples, full tolerance towards their religious beliefs, and the practice of their rituals without discrimination or interference with the governing authority, insofar as they did not compromise the public security system and paid taxes, but their attitude towards the Christian faith differed. In this study, we will try to find out the accusations levelled at Christians until their followers are exposed to the persecution of power and to the irony and exasperation of society.
